7. A Motown revival?
While everyone is hopeful the Major League version of the Tigers will be competitive this year, there's certainly hope for the future. The Tigers' Minor League affiliates have the best combined winning percentage in baseball with a 65-41 record that translates to a .613 winning percentage.

Another tidbit here

Sarasota Reds (Cincinnati Reds)
Last Week: 4-3, Overall: 12-18
Thanks in large part to Junior Ruiz, the Sarasota Reds won four of seven games this week. Ruiz hit .450 and drove in six runs for the week. Brock Till had the best start of the week when he limited Dunedin to one unearned run in 5 2/3 innings in a 5-2 win last Tuesday.

LHP Ben Kozlowski yielded 2 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings to collect his 1st victory of the season while RHP Bubba Nelson worked a scoreless 9th inning to bag his 5th save, as Chattanooga (CIN) edged Birmingham (CHW), 3-2. Kozlowski continues to make steady progress in his second season back from "Tommy John" surgery. The best thing Koz is showing right now is command, which is something he didn't show before TJS. The 24-year-old lefty has walked just 7 batters in 27.1 innings this season, recording 28 Ks. His ERA is a rock solid 2.96. Nelson is starting to thrive in short relief. He has a 3.29 ERA after 12 games. He's whiffed 16 batters in just 13.2 innings.

If these are too much just let me know, but like I said before they may be thing that you may not realize by just reading the box score.

I cant say I would argue with you. You would think that he would at least be in AAA now. Especially with Coffey up in Cincy, but maybe they really want to build up his confidence before moving him up.

Kelly shows off his multiple skills as Bats win 3-2
Homers and guns down two at home

Before switching to baseball full time, Kenny Kelly played quarterback at the University of Miami. He certainly looked like a two-way star last night.

On defense Kelly used his right arm to gun down two Norfolk Tides runners at the plate. On offense he belted the game-winning solo home run as the Louisville Bats opened an eight-game homestand with a 3-2 victory.

"What a great game all around," Bats manager Rick Sweet said. "I didn't pitch him, but maybe I should have."

The score was tied at 2 in the sixth with one out and the bases loaded when Norfolk's Rodney Nye lofted a shallow fly to right. Kelly made the catch and fired a bullet to catcher Dane Sardinha to nail Mike DiFelice at the plate by several steps.

In the seventh, Craig Brazell was on second when Jeff Keppinger's single deflected off first baseman A.J. Zapp's glove. Kelly charged the ball and threw another perfect dart to erase the sliding Brazell.

Those were the kind of throws that helped him lead the Big East in passing yards per game for Miami in 1999.

"It's exciting," Kelly said. "What makes it more exciting is that those two outs were key outs. If I don't make those throws, we're sitting here now with an 'L.' "

He made sure that didn't happen in the eighth, jumping on a hanging slider from Tim Lavigne (1-1) and just clearing the right-field wall.

Kelly is batting .457 (16 for 35) in his last 11 games. Sweet recently moved him back to the leadoff spot.

"That's really helping me out," Kelly said. "Batting leadoff makes me bear down and shorten my swing, so I put the ball in play."

Edwin Encarnacion drove in the other two runs with a first-inning double. He also made a smart play in the fourth when Tides pitcher Jae Seo laid down a bunt with runners at the corners and two out. Encarnacion had no play, so he let the ball roll all the way down the line until it took an abrupt left turn mere inches before the bag.

Jeriome Robertson gave the Bats six innings of two-run ball. Chris Booker (2-0) pitched the final two innings, striking out the side in the ninth, for the win.

The Bats were playing with a short-handed roster. Infielder William Bergolla and relief pitcher Todd Coffey were called up to Cincinnati yesterday, replacing injured outfielder Wily Mo Pena and reliever Ben Weber.

The series continues tonight at 7:15. Left-hander Randy Keisler (2-1, 3.12 ERA) will pitch for Louisville against right-hander Eric Junge (2-1, 1.59).
