Hot prospect at the hot corner from Courier-Journal
Click here for restEdwin Encarnacion beamed with pride when his Louisville Bats teammate and good friend William Bergolla got called up to the Cincinnati Reds earlier this month.
The two 22-year-old prospects have practically grown up side-by-side in the Reds' organization, playing on the same clubs for the past five years and rooming together on the road.
"I'm very happy for him," Encarnacion said. "I almost feel like I'm there with him. I just have to keep working so we can be together again."
Most baseball wonks figured Encarnacion would get to the big leagues first. The third baseman entered this season ranked as the Reds' top positional prospect and has cemented that status during his first six weeks in Triple-A.
Good job by Kelly once again!

Tidbits from ondeckbaseball.com
1B Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with a blast (7) and 2 RBIs and RHP Justin Mallett struck out 5 batters in 5 scoreless innings of 2-hit ball to garner his 2nd win in Sarasota's (CIN) 3-2 home victory over St. Lucie (NYM). Votto is starting to heat up. The 21-year-old Canadian has homered in 4 of the last 7 games and he's knocked in at least one run in 7 straight games. Votto is now tied for 3rd in the FSL in RBIs (31) and his average sits at .273. Votto is the 2nd best position prospect in the Reds' system, trailing Edwin Encarnacion. Both can hit. Mallett, 23, has rung up 22 batters in 16.2 innings this season, registering a 1.62 ERA.

Tidbits from ondeckbaseball.com
CF Chris Denorfia went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and RHP Josh Hall rung up 7 batters in 7 innings of 6-hit, 3-run ball to collect his 1st win for Chattanooga (CIN), as the Lookouts torched Huntsville (MIL), 8-3. Denorfia has been one of the biggest surprises in the SL thus far. The 24-year-old outfielder leads the SL in extra-base hits (25) and runs scored (38), is tied for 1st in doubles (16), places 2nd in hits (57), and is 9th in batting (.333). Denorfia projects to be a good reserve outfielder in the majors. Hall is making his way back from shoulder surgery, which is one of the most difficult things to do in baseball. The 24-year-old righty has a 6.55 ERA after 2 games with Chattanooga
3B Edwin Encarnacion was a perfect 4-for-4 with a bomb (7), a steal, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs for the Bats. Encarnacion has homered in 3 out of the last 6 games and his average has climbed to .308. The more the Reds lose, the sooner they may deal Joe Randa and call up Encarnacion.
Denorfia just keeps hitting.
The Simpson family gathers around, as Homer places Bart's passed test on the fridge.)
Homer: We're proud of you, boy.
Bart: Thanks, Dad. But part of this D-minus belongs to God.
Basham is still lurking around? Kind of forgot all about him.
Anyway, great to hear about Ed E. As tempting as it is, I really would wait to call him up. I do think he could hit just fine in the majors but I would like for them to continue to have him work on the essentials of small ball and his defense. Plus he is young and there is no need to rush him IMO. Let him dominate, build his skills and his confidence and we're talking about a strong possibility for RoY in 2006.
