Update on Gardner and Pauley in John Fay's Notebook
Richie Gardner and Thomas Pauly were the No. 3- and No. 6-rated prospects by Baseball America going into last season. If you've checked this year's minor-league stats, you'll see they are nowhere to be found.
The two right-handers are coming off shoulder surgery and rehabbing at extended spring training.
"Richie is about two weeks from throwing off the mound," said Johnny Almaraz, the Reds' director of player development/international operations. "Pauly is a little behind him, probably a month away."
Article from DDN about Fisher's performance
Dragons' pitching shows plenty of promise in 2-1 victory
Carlos Fisher, an 11th-round draft pick, has second straight scoreless outing.

DAYTON | Suddenly, what has been a pitcher-poor Reds organization looks to be top-heavy — in pitchers.
At least that was the impression left by two excellently pitched games by the Dayton Dragons the last two days, topped by right-hander Carlos Fisher's gem Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.
Fisher produced the longest Dragons' outing of the season, going an out and three batters into the seventh inning, of what became a 2-1 Dayton victory over Kane County in a Class A Midwest League game.
Not only was Fisher excellent — three singles, one walk and nine strikeouts — Blake Hendley, just in from Sarasota, closed out the game allowing only one run, that scoring on a ground out.
For Fisher — an 11th-round pick from last summer's free-agent draft — it was a second straight scoreless outing.
He went six innings at Quad City five days before, also earning the victory.
"I'm just getting comfortable," Fisher said. He had allowed nine runs in 91/3 innings over his first two starts.
"And the weather is better, too," he said.
If the weather is warmer, the Dragons are hot. Not only did they win their second straight game, but they have five victories over their last seven games. Much of it is due to the pitching, which has allowed 18 runs over the seven games.
"Our starters are real strong," Fisher said. "Every guy is quality. From what I've seen around the league, we're as good as any team."
Pitching at Billings, Mont., last year, Fisher was stuck in the tandem pitching rotation, throwing from the bullpen every other game and being held to 75 pitches as a starter.
As an everyday starter and without the hard pitch count, it's easier, he said.
"In the back of your mind, you want a chance to get the win," Fisher said.
Dragons tales
Unable to get a backup catcher in time for the game, it was decided to wait to see how long Craig Tatum would be out with a slight concussion from Saturday. If he's okay, he'll be available tonight. ... For the second straight game, the Dragons used only two pitchers. ... At 2:26, it was also the shortest game of the season so far.
