Our turnovers saved us again. We won't have those every week. Our Offense has got to be better in key situations! I'll take the win though.

Lewis has to be doing something right in Cinci. for the Bengals are actually a respectable team in a very long time.Originally Posted by CincyRedsFan30
We can't count on the turnovers so much. If we don't get those, we need to learn to win using other methods, including stopping the run and executing in the Red Zone.

I'm sure Lewis knows that. There's always improvements to made on any team. Stopping the run and execution is not always neccesarily reflective of the coach it can also be the coordinators, position coaches, the players, etc.
The Coach drafts the players(especially in the case of this current Bengals Defense). I was expecting a bit more out of this Run Defense, which Marvin has known to be an issue for the last three years. It hasn't improved so far. If we want to take the next step, we need to improve the Run Defense. There have been no signs up to this point of it happening. I hope it does soon.

Drafts are always a risk. Who to pan out, who's not going to pan out. It's part of the draft, always has been and always will be. You think Chargers thought Leaf was going to suck it up when they took him with the 2nd pick. Most likely not. Marvin is only a coach, I don't ever remember hearing Marvin being praised for being a good drafter. I can understand what you're saying, but going back to your original post, I just don't see how Lewis is overrated. He's a good coach.
A good Coach improves problem areas. I don't hate Lewis, but I do expect the Run Defense to start getting better. That's been a big problem for the last few years. And if he's not a good drafter, then that's an issue in and of itself. I think he has made some good picks in the draft, but I still am not sure about this Run Defense up to this point. The reason I call Lewis overrated is because some praise him as though he's a genius, particularly as a Defensive Coach, and while I've seen a lot of general improvement, I haven't seen quite enough improvement on D. I will not say he's overrated once(if) our D takes the next step.
I worry a bit that this is the type of team who could choke in the clutch in big games unless we manage to improve the Run Defense. We don't quite have the optimal "mold" yet. I worry that until our Run Defense improves, we could have similar results as the now departed(thankfully!) Bob Huggins did in clutch situations.

Understandable. I'm sure as a coach he knows that the run defense is lacking, but coaches can only do so much and it really comes down to the players executing out on the field. Lewis could have the whole defensive side viewing film and practicing to help the run defense and it's ultimately up to the players improving themselves.
Palmer was clutch today on that last drive before the half. That was poetry in motion there.
Yeah. It was good to see him look more like Roethlisberger today than himself. Maybe he is turning the corner into the Roethlisberger league, although his passer rating says he's not quite there yet.

We can only hope so. I'll tell you one thing though, I am getting really tired of the penalties,I though this was going to be Jacksonville all over.
We did have a few in key situations today(like after Perry's 40-yd. run), but at least we cut the overall number down to four today. I hope we can continue to improve upon not making dumb mistakes, particularly in important situations.

Yea pentalies are hurting us way to much. We cant afford to make a mistake next week against Pittsburgh. Can't get to excited we haven't won the division yet.
I think we need TJ back in there to help out the Palmer and Chad connection. I must say i have liked the production from Walter and Henry. Other than that ... WHO DEY

Enjoy the game. You're lucky to get to go. It's been quite some time since everyone in Cincy has been so hyped up regarding sports (other than the occasional overall optimism we can get at the start of a season.)
