Is Narron managing the team again? (Gonzalez' infant is sick again, by the way, so he is away):

Valentin catching Belisle(again) when he, IMO, affects him negatively more than any of the other starters most of the time. Freel still struggling some this year and yet leading off and playing 3B. Hopper playing and batting second. Edwin on the bench for the second game in a row. Shades of Narron with the Edwin/Aurilia mess.

EdE is far too neglected. If we aren'tgoing to use him we might as well trade him. It huirts me to say that, but not a single manager since EdE's callup has used him on a regular basis. While he is one of the two most potent right handed bats on this team. It just sickens me.

Mackanin better keep himself from trying to establish the impossible. I look for the Reds to lose this game on account of this lineup and because we are facing a slow throwing LHP. Glavine has been struggling, but he should be two games away from 300 by the end of the night.

    Re: Random Reds Rumblings

Looks like the Reds will make a few roster moves tomorrow based on Mackanin's comments after the game.

    Should be interesting.

Maybe we'll even see a trade or two announced tomorrow.

I will be at Sunday afternoon's game and will be interested to see what happens.

Taking two of three from the Brewers was sweet... sweeping the Cubs would be bliss.

And let us know if you hear anything around the ballpark CRF. I really need to get down there and see a game, it's been too long but I always seem busy or disgusted when they're in town. Ha.

    Re: Random Reds Rumblings

You mean taking three of four.

It was a good series for the team. No doubt about that. Though I'm not sure about some of Mackanin's decisions and am not sure I want him to get any consideration as the permanent manager, I definitely think he is better than Narron, though that isn't saying much.

And I will definitely let you know if I hear anything. I get the impression that some stuff will happen before Tuesday related to the team, maybe even tomorrow. I think we will at least see some roster moves tomorrow unrelated to trades.

Krivsky obviously needs to try to maximize the return on some guys such as Lohse, Weathers and Hatteberg. I will be really upset if those guys and a couple others aren't traded. We need too much young bullpen and rotation help not to try to make some shrewd moves for some of the more veteran players.

As I've mentioned all year, I definitely like Coutlangus and Burton, but aside from them, no one currently in the pen as of right now I really want in the pen next year and beyond.

Man, that site crashed totally messed me up as I didn't even remember Monday's game, wow.

Let's just hope Krivsky sticks to his guns and realizes a year with Dunn is better than a sub-standard return for him.

    Re: Random Reds Rumblings

Yup. The good news is all of the trade rumblings regarding Dunn have featured Krivsky asking for a lot in return and not backing down, to the point where some other GMs have basically ended discussions with him.

    I like hearing that.

Same here. I wonder if he never got as burned as he did on the trade with the Nationals last year (even if Lopez and Kearns have struggled in a big way) if he would be as stubborn, because I imagine the talks with Bowden had bigger names included until Bowden broke him down.

They very well might have changed his strategy. No doubt about that. I'm sure he was asking for guys like Zimmerman and/or Rauch at one point.

Before I head home for the weekend tomorrow around noon, I have to get up at 5 a.m. to leave by 6 a.m. to go to the police, sheriff and fire stations to get the information for the police blotter, which I have to help prepare tomorrow with our police reporter off tomorrow. It's actually pretty cool getting to get the blotter, though getting up at 5 a.m. to get the information isn't exactly fun.

    Re: Random Reds Rumblings

I just wanted to add regarding my Coutlangus/Burton bullpen thoughts mentioned above that I have been impressed with how Gosling has performed against lefties so far since he's been up, though I want to see a little more of him before I deem him worthy as a lefty specialist next year. For some reason I have some fear he could implode before the end of the year and change my mind about him.

Perhaps he and maybe even Coffey could be a part of next year's bullpen, though I'm not so sure yet. Even if so, we still need around three QUALITY arms in the back of the bullpen to take setup/closer roles or at least a pretty good middle reliver, a closer and one setup arm, as I could see Burton and maybe Coutlangus rising to the challenge of sharing part of a setup role by next year.

For the record, a source has told me they expect one or TWO Reds moves by around 4 p.m.

I hope its Conine and Weathers. Weathers ought to be a nice return if Linebrink got what he got. Weathers would also realize he's more suited for setup duty and be more willing to accept that than Gagne.
