Is Dusty the long term solution as manager?

We are a month in and I am already wishing that the Reds would get rid of Dusty due to a lot of reasons.

I wanted to open up a poll and get everyone elses thoughts.

The lineup last night before the rainout was reported as being:
    Jerry Hairston Jr. 2B
    Ryan Freel, RF
    Corey Patterson, CF
    Joey Votto, 1B
    Edwin Encarnacion, 3B
    Adam Dunn, LF
    Jeff Keppinger, SS
    Paul Bako, C
    Matt Belisle, RHP

    Couple notes:
1 Griff was ill and a late scratch
2 Phillips is DTD with the bruised leg, ankle, something

This just shows me even more Dusty is not equipped for this job and leads me further to say those teams won inspite of him and as soon as doubt entered they (SF and Chi) dumped him like a bad habit.

Poll set to run for 2 weeks.

I say it is too early to tell for now. But I am not impressed so far. None of us here were very excited about his hire, so that bodes well for our thinking. But it doesn't make our team better, perhaps it makes it worse.

As far as the lineup goes; I don't understand why every manager does it. But when you have a late scratch, why do you insert his replacement into the same spot in the order? Especially when it is in the middle of the order.

I was excited about his hire. And I still am.

He just needs time to get clutch players like he and Jocketty prefer.

So, the answer to the question is a resounding: "yes."

CRF, you clearly are correct on your take more often than not. And he does in fact have a good track record, but what has he done here so far to win you over?

I am very tired of blaming managers every year and I hope that Dusty can change the pace of that. But what has he done good so far?

    Is that a joke?
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Dusty has lead every team he has managed to the playoffs. Its not his fault that Griffey and Dunn aren't hitting well. Baker had nothing to do with building this team except for Patterson. This is just like the other thread when Reds fans blamed Dick Pole for their struggles.

Starting Paul Bako helped and its looks like he dropped Dunn in the order which was the right thing to do. He's not the one that isn't hitting. Be mad at their performance.

He also continues to put that black hole Patterson in the leadoff spot. If the Reds had no better options thats fine but you have Ryan Freel (.304/.347/.362/.709), Jeff Keppinger (.292/.336/.392/.728), some rumors that Votto might get a chance (.302/.362/.583/.945), or even ride a hot bat like Hairston, or even see if the team can take advantage of Dunn getting walked (.219/.376/.429/.805) and with those options Corey Patterson continues to get oppertunity after oppertunity after oppertunity to show he doesnt suck and whats he do? Show why he sucks.

Leaves Griffey in the 3 hole (even moved him up to the 2 hole hitting an ops of not even 700. While Dunn's starting to hit and up to .800 ops.

And with Bako I dont care if he'd go 0 for the month youre not going to play Valentin behind the plate more than once a week period (while Ross was on the DL). The fact he's hitting is gravy.

I agree with Patterson but lately he has taken him out of the leadoff spot.

Re: Is Dusty the long term solution as manager?

I have a feeling Patterson will lose his job after today. Freel was very productive right behind him. Hopefully Baker can see what everyone else can now. As for the poll, I went with the least of our problems. Patterson isn't the only reason we are doing bad, and aside from that man crush he has done a pretty decent job. Its the team itself that is letting us down, not the manager.

I hope so. Freel is my favorite Red though I love to see Dunn hit those 450 ft blasts.

Ryan Freel went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and a steal versus the Mets in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
It should have been 4-for-5, but first-base umpire Damien Beal made a hideous call on a on a bunt attempt that Freel obvious beat beat out in the fifth. Freel is batting .324 anyway.
This would change every managers mind.

We will see but it still looks like if Patterson plays he'll lead off come brimstone and fire if Dusty's the manager.
