Reds sign 16 year old Juan Duran

The international signing period is still four months away, but the Reds have already made a big splash in the Dominican Republic, giving a $2 million signing bonus to 16-year-old outfielder Juan Duran, a player who many thought would not be eligible to sign until July 2.

I was planning to write up a bit on this, if I get the time after class I will, but this is a fantastic signing.

Excellent signing indeed, glad to see us open the wallet a bit here. Also notable is we were the only team to realize that he was singable before July 2, as was believed. Keeping him from going to the Yanks or the like for 5 mil.

Wow, why not sign a kid the day there born? Should there be an age limit before a player can sign with a team? At 16 your what a sophomore in high school.

My only question is this, will mom or dad travel with the kid? He will go to some low low a ball level correct? I dont see the coaches babysitting him.

Anyway by what I have been reading on the kid there could be one good player there. Nice signing for the Reds. Nice to see the Yankees not suck him up.

Just seems a little crazy a 16 year old gets 2 million dollars. Makes me want to go to the Dominican Republic and become a baseball player all over again.

If your 6'6 and hit the ball 500 ft when your 16 then I don't think it matters where your from.
