CINCINNATI -- Danny Graves is available for a buck.
The Reds requested unconditional release waivers on Graves on Tuesday, meaning any team can claim him for $1 over the next 48 hours.
Of course, Graves comes with a bit of a higher cost than just a dollar. Any team that claims him during this period must also pay the remainder of his $6.25 million contract.
What's much more likely to happen is that the 48-hour period will pass without action and Graves, who was designated for assignment on May 23, will become a free agent. The Reds would then still be stuck paying off his contract.
Graves, 31, went 1-1 with a 7.76 ERA and 10 saves in 20 relief appearances for the Reds this season. He posted an ERA of 11.00 in 10 appearances in May, including a 30.38 ERA in his last three games.
