Reds are interested in Mike Cameron

Trades involving other center fielders could expand the market for center fielder Mike Cameron, who is waiting to hear whether the Padres get outfielder Kosuke Fukodome
The Reds may emerge as a candidate for Cameron. They are shopping center fielder Josh Hamilton, and if they move him and go after Cameron, Reds manager Dusty Baker would be a selling point. When Baker interviewed with the Padres last offseason, Cameron strongly endorsed Baker and said he very much would want to play for Baker.
Cameron's agent said Friday night that a new club had emerged yesterday as a potential suitor.
Cameron has spent most of his career playing his home games in a pitchers park. An exception came in 1999, when he played for the Reds in Cinergy Field. Cameron said it was an extremely enjoyable season, in large part because he enjoyed teammates such as Barry Larkin, Ken Griffey Jr., and Greg Vaughn. The current Reds ballpark is more hitter friendly than Cinergy, which was also a good hitters park.
The Reds are desperate for pitching. One way to bolster a pitching staff is to improve the defense.

Sounds like Krivsky and the Jays didn't find a match for Rios. So he has moved on to Cameron. You look at this from the surface and you eventually have no choice but to realize what Krivsky is doing. He is definitely trying to find a replacement for Hamilton or Bruce.

As far as Cameron goes, this is a horrible way to go in my opinion. Hamilton is far superior with the bat and Cameron is slightly better in CF. We know that Krivsky likes defense, but Cameron has multiple reasons for us not to even consider him.

1.) He has been linked to banned substances and is suspended for the first 25 games of the season. His power numbers in a pitcher's park will steadily decline even if he comes to a hitter's park.

2.) He is 35 years old and we would be substituting a guy who could play for us for another 10-15 years for a guy who is in the last few years of his career.

3.) Is he really that much better than Hamilton in CF?

4.) Dunn, Cameron, Griffey outfield? Griffey is gone next year. Dunn may sign long term. Cameron better not get a long term deal from us. So we possibly have Dunn and hopefully Bruce for 2008.

5.) Ultimately, if Hamilton has to be traded for an arm, I would rather go with Hopper/Freel in CF until Bruce is ready to come up. That is a cheaper, already in house option and I find it to be a much better fit as well.
