Fernando Cabrera... Wayne K's next budget pickup?

Let's hope so. He's the exact type of risk our pen should be taking on considering we have been reduced to options such as Ricky Stone. 25 years old and can find the punchout pitch, let's sign him up Kriv.

    Indians released RHP Fernando Cabrera.

The Indians designated Cabrera for assignment last week after growing frustrated with his struggles this season and apparently couldn't find a taker for him, but losing him for nothing is a mistake. Cabrera has pitched poorly this year, but he remains a strong bet to help some team as a late-inning reliever. He has a 4.35 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 130 1/3 major league innings.

Go get this guy Krivsky! Lets hope he has his eyes open today and starts making moves before anyone else does.

I like Cabrera enough that I would of been fine with a trade for, but now Krivsky would have to be stupid not to take a gamble on him.

I bet if we don't get him, it will be said that Krivsky tried to get him and failed.

I believe he was released and is now a FA. Time to get on it WK!

When and how the Reds add to their five World Championships, nine pennants and nine division titles seems less important than the franchises' lineage, which traces a line back to the dawn of the professional game and their role as keeper of the historic flame they lit by birthing the Red Stockings in 1869.

Yep, he was released on Wednesday I think. The Reds have to make a move on him, we can afford to lose a Stanton or Santos or whoever if need be.

No offense, but this is definitely the type of thing Beane moves on as well...Christ, we snatched up Ruddy Lugo of all people...either way, I'm sure someone will take a chance on him.

Devil Rays Interested In Fernando Cabrera

According to Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Tribune, the Devil Rays are interested in recently released 25 year-old reliever Fernando Cabrera. In the past, it was revealed that the Orioles inquired on him.

Since he was released, Cabrera is eligible to sign with any team. According to R.J. Anderson of Drays Bay:

"Cabrera throws a 92-95 fastball with a good hard splitter and a slider that produces a load of swings and misses."

I really hope it's just Wayne K staying quiet to baseball sources. He would be a closer candidate with us once Weathers is done or goes elsewhere.

The cardinals seem like the type that could go for him. They have just as much shit for pitching (well, almost but hey whatever)

The Phillies should be really hard after him right now. So many teams which leaves Wayne with so many excuses as to why he didn't get him. Pay the guy some freakin money RCast!

Except the Cards are still in the race and could still quite possibly win the NL Central.

Not saying that will happen, but if it does, it would have to be one of the best GMing episodes in some time.

If Carpenter weren't hurt, the Cards would likely be a playoff-caliber team as of right now.

Re: Fernando Cabrera... Wayne K's next budget pickup?

This last series showed the difference between a pen who gets the job done and one who doesn't. And Everyday Eddie is certainly done from what it seems like, and if not, will not be worth 3 mil next season... the Reds would have to be stupid to not try and sign him, but with saying that I imagine they won't.

The results for Guardado so far are not good, though I haven't really got to scout him yet. I want to get a little bit longer of a look at him to make sure.
