Will Carroll reports:
LinkCarroll reports that the Cubs could swap Jacque Jones and a prospect for Jeff Conine. Perhaps such a move would be in tandem with Adam Dunn leaving Cincinnati. The Cubs might want to hold on to Jones though; he's playing well lately.
Jones is owed $5 million for 2008 I believe. Then his contract is over. That is a lot of money going to someone who only has a .305 OBP this season. His career numbers are not much better either (.327).
So if Krivsky is looking at this, he may be looking for a Dunn replacement as a stopgap until Bruce gets the callup. I can understand a stopgap, but not at that price for no talent. Hopper/Freel will bring you close to his caliber defense and Hopper will definitely hit better.
Makes no sense to me and the part that scares me is that Jones is a prior Twinkie.
