From Rotoworld:
"Reds named Dick Pole pitching coach.
Pole was Dusty Baker's bench coach with the Cubs the last four seasons, but he's served as a pitching coach with five different teams during his lengthy career. It's not exactly an inspired pick for the Reds, but he'll probably get the job done."
Pole did a fair job in Chicago, and he was there earlier and oversaw Greg Maddux's development, and Maddux heavily credits him. He also possibly had a hand in some of the more recent Cubs pitching performances, which had some very solid bullpen years and a couple nice years out of unexpected players (Shawn Hill in 06, Glendon Rusch in 04). He was with the Angels in 1999 (... ouch, but a solid bullpen), the Indians in 2001 (bad starters, nice bullpen), the Indians in 2000 (another bad rotation with a good bullpen), and the 2002 Expos (Vazquez's best year, Tomo Ohka's best year, Tony Armas and Masato Yoshii had solid years, Colon was great, bullpen was good).
Looks like a solid choice. Plus he has a funny name.
