CINCINNATI -- The Reds shook up their shaky bullpen Friday when they promoted right-hander Ricky Stone from Triple-A Louisville and demoted right-hander Joe Valentine.
Stone, a Hamilton, Ohio, native, went 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA and three saves in nine relief appearances for the Bats this season. He held opponents to a .192 average. During Spring Training with the big-league club, the 30-year-old Stone went 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 10 relief appearances.
Valentine, 25, has been with the Reds all season. He went 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA in 12 appearances and had given up at least one run in each of his last four outings.
The Reds' bullpen has blown four saves thus far this season and has compiled a 5.70 ERA.
Stone will take the place of Daylan Childress on the 40-man roster. Childress was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Friday.
Stone made 16 appearances with the Astros last season. He had a 1-1 record and a 5.68 ERA.
