O'Brien will not shake things up. Yet...
Reds GM: No shake-up coming soon
By Marc Lancaster
Post staff reporter
MILWAUKEE - As poorly as the Reds played on their just-competed road trip, no roster shake-ups are imminent.
General manager Dan O'Brien said Sunday night that the front office, coaching staff and players are looking to the three-game series against St. Louis that begins tonight at Great American Ball Park as a measure of where the Reds stand.
"The thing that we have to keep in perspective is that we have to look forward to the team we're going to play (tonight), because that's the team you've got to beat," said O'Brien. "And quite honestly, there's not a better time to come up against them than right now. It's the type of opportunity you look forward to. I think (manager Dave Miley) and the staff are hoping that that focus is going to help get us back on track and obviously go from there."
Through the first month of play, the Cardinals have done nothing to call into question the preseason consensus that they were the team to beat in the Reds' division. The defending National League champions arrive in town with a 15-8 record despite having lost two in a row in Atlanta, and hold a 3½-game lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs. The Reds are in fifth place, 5½ games back.
O'Brien hasn't seen the Reds play in nearly two weeks. As the team headed out on its 10-day, nine-game road trip, O'Brien embarked on a scouting mission across the Southwest, checking out prospects for the June draft.
Though he hasn't witnessed the team's struggles firsthand, O'Brien received frequent reports from director of major league operations Brad Kullman, who was on the entire trip, and Miley.
O'Brien said the overriding theme of what he'd heard was that the Reds were inconsistent in all facets of the game.
"You can't pinpoint any one thing," he said. "There's been inconsistency across the board. In their mind, no one element is any more or less responsible for us not having played well to this point."

I am glad that they know that this series is huge. But will they recognize it enough to try and strat getting it done? Try and make every AB count. Try to make every pitch count.
