Just heard it on 1530AM here in Cincinnati.
Don't know much about Cormier, but Germano simply didn't fit into the Reds' plans.
In any case, another O'Brien acquisition is gone.

Wow Rheal Cormier I thought he had retired.... Lets see according to espn, 39 yrs old. 43 appearances and 34 IP this year for Philly, 2-2 record with an era of 1.59.
Eh I was hoping to get a starter but continues to try and solidify the effort. So weve now basically traded Joe Randa for Eddie Guardado and Rheal Cormier.

Can't complain about getting an RP with a 1.6 ERA for a pitcher the Reds weren't planning to really use.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.
Krivsky really hates all of the O'Brien players.
I don't mind this move, as I wasn't that impressed by Germano the other day. Cormier should make the depth quite good in the bullpen and make the roles better for the player's talents there.
I just hope this isn't the only move happening today.
What's going to happen with the fifth spot in the rotation if Claussen isn't ready to go on Saturday? The only possibility I could see is them finally deciding to bring Bailey up, but I would advise against that. I don't see them putting Gosling or Dumatrait in that spot since neither would probably even be as good as Germano.
It seems Krivsky must be very confident SOMEONE will be in the last spot in the rotation Saturday, but I'm not sure how he can be sure it will be Claussen.
These next several hours are going to be telling.

Couple other notes about Cromier he's been great vs RHH and above average vs LHH.

Any guesses as to whos next to go? Weathers, Standridge, that CF we just called up?

It would seem a reliever would have to go as we currently have seven bullpen arms there. I would say either Shackelford, Weathers or Standridge will get the boot.

Hmm, Lancaster says Watson is going back to Louisville.
That really makes no sense, as we now have eight bullpen arms...

I like the deal, Germano was borderline at best. My dad said he heard something on the radio about Votto for Frank Catalanotto? I really dont think it makes sense, but its the type of player the reds would go after. have u heard anything about that CRF?
The Reds have also scheduled a 4:30 p.m. press conference.
For what, I can't say for sure...

They found a way to make the D-Train and Tejada trades work LOL j/k. Theres gotta be something more in the works than these "minor" deals.Originally Posted by CincyRedsFan30

Wow, let's all hope not. Votto would be ideal to pair up with Dunn for a killer 1-2 punch.Originally Posted by dfnghesmeh
As for this move, I can't complain. Germano has decent potential and could be an ok 5th starter. He seems like a nice kid and I wish him a lot of luck. But I really dig Cormier despite his age as this helps to solidify our pen with a dominating arm and a vet who could really help a guy like Bray learn the ropes. Our pen is really taking shape now.

I like this deal as well. Germano did actually impress me the other day, but I was expecting a lot worse. He is your prototypical 5th starter that may have an above average start every once in a while.
Cormier is a really good arm out of the pen though. His ERA is nasty and I really think his addition will solidify this bullpen.
Cormier's killing righties this year. I wouldn't expect that to last, particularly after what he showed last season. But he'll probably destroy lefties the rest of the way, and he'll improve on Kent Mercker.
I also like the trade.
Germano is going to be a career #6 starter.
