Hammond DFA; Shackelford called back up

The Reds DFA Hammond today and called up Shackelford.

I would have rather seen Weathers DFA as he has looked totally lost for quite a while. Hammond had a stretch of some very good outings.

I also hope this is an attempt to keep the bullpen above water(slightly) up until the All-Star Break next Sunday while Krivsky searches for some good relief help.

So Hammond is gone now too. We have to believe that Shackelford is a better option than Hammond these days. But how much better of an option is he? I think having those vet arms in the pen is looking like it is vastly coming to a halt. Mercker and Weathers should follow Hammond soon.

I just hope that Shackelford is only used as a lefty specialist. He has TERRIBLE numbers against righties.

I hope CRF is right here. It may just be a hold over until Krivsky can figure something out. I would be willing to bet that he has something lined up right now. Shackelford may just be up as a stopgap for the moment.

So you guys would trust Yan, Standridge, and Shack over Weathers or Mercker in a close ball game? Give me a break....

Weathers is a leader for one thing and is very respected. Merckers numbers are so bad b/c Narron isn't having him pitch enough. He is at his best when he pitches every other day, which isn't happening.

And I'm not happy to see Shack back. He walks too many and gives up too many home runs.

No, I never said I trusted Yan or Standridge over Weathers/Mercker. I don't like either one of them either.

I do prefer Shackelford over Weathers for sure and possibly Mercker though. Weathers looks done right now unless he is still recovering from that injury and will round into form or is going through a pretty long dead arm period. Either way, he shouldn't be in too many pressure situations right now.
