Thread: reds draft

Is the Cubs most recent pick Samardjiza the same guy as ND's WR. If so, I would think he'd go into football

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.

Yes. He will stick to football considering he isn't that good of a pitcher.

Ravin shows three pitches in his video. Heat tops out at 89, some sort of off-speed thing at 80 and a slow curve that looked sort of flat to me at 70.

there wasn't a scouting report with it. he's a highschool kid, listed at 6-4 195, so i'd assume he projects to have a little more velocity than what he's at right now when he fills out some.

..and someone finally has the common sense to draft Jordan Newton (not like we would of picked him anyway.)

We take pitcher Jordan Smith, a big righty. Anyone know anything about him and his stuff?

He's a Yankee fan, a Bonds fan, and he like steak

I guess he's a closer, not much on him out there.

    Seriously

    4.8 ERA in Spring '06, 21 K's in 24 innings

Looks like an RP with tools, as the stats aren't overwhelming

    Another reliever... great.

And visions of David Bush danced in Chris Buckley's head.

Seriously, is Betances asking for too much? Or did he go when I missed it? Sickels placed him with the Sox second supplemental pick, and he said that's late.

Now this Zach Daeges guy from Creighton is a guy I like. He's raked for Creighton in 2004 and 2005

Sounds *somewhat* promising, especially due to his frame.

Nevertheless, scouts saw enough of righthander Jordan Smith to run him into the first 10 rounds. Smith went to Salt Lake Community College as a catcher/first baseman but realized arm strength was his best tool and transferred to Southern Nevada so he could pitch. While he was used in a limited role, his fastball sat in the 92-94 mph range and touched 96. More significantly to scouts, he wasn't under control to any club. His 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame is another plus. His inexperience and developing secondary stuff are drawbacks, though his slider and split-finger fastball both improved as the season progressed, as Smith learned to throw both with some power.

Betances is still available. I think there are some signing concerns and he lost some velocity, but this is ridiculous.
