Germano flying up as Belisle may go to DL

    per Marc's Blog:

CHICAGO -- Following this afternoon's game, Matt Belisle headed back to Cincinnati. He's experiencing pain in his lower back and will be examined by Doc Kremchek tomorrow morning.

There is no DL move yet, but just in case, the Reds are having Justin Germano fly into Chicago so they'll have another body available tomorrow night. Germano is 3-6 with a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts for Louisville.
Here hoping Germano can show us some things. He hasnt done great in Louisville yet but it may be different for him in a bullpen role.

So we are pretty sure it would be a long/middle relief role? Somehow, I think he will get a spot start before he goes back to AAA.

I really don't know if he has the stuff to be successful as a starter right now. A bullpen role might be nice just to give him a taste of MLB hitting and let him learn a bit more without hopefully rocking his confidence level (essentially low-pressure situations.)

If you all hate Elizardo then you're probably not going to like Germano. They are pretty similar pitchers.

This is now official. Belisle to the 15 day DL retroactive to the day after he pitched last (can't remember the exact date) due to a sore back. Germano will be in the bullpen, replacing Belisle.

i wish i would have gotten to see him last night, what was the gun like on him, is he a weak arm guy, or can he actually bring it, and what kind of counts did he work, did he throw a lot of pitches or strikes

He's far from overpowering, he has to keep the ball down to have success.

Germano's big pitch is a breaking ball. He can also throw a pretty decent change.

Homer: We're proud of you, boy.

Bart: Thanks, Dad. But part of this D-minus belongs to God.
