That's the problem with this team... they swing for the fence every chance they get instead of taking the time to manufacture runs.

clutch hitting and hitting HR are not the same thing.

Maybe previous years but this season was a different beast when we were going right. Not only were we hitting homers, but we were productively stealing, getting runners over and being patient even over of chasing a pitch when there was a chance of being a hero.

Except hitting HR often IS the Reds' method of clutch hitting, so it really is clutch hitting for them.

It's not because they are always "swinging for the fences." When they are hitting HR, they are often being more patient at that particular time and also hitting more Doubles and drawing more BB.

And mission, I agree, although Ryan Howard might have something to say about how hard it was to hit HR.

Bart: Thanks, Dad. But part of this D-minus belongs to God.

Ryan Howard is so impressive looking. Crazy to think about the Phillies once considering dealing him in favor of Jim Thome.

just because we hit HRs, doesn't mean you can just say that hitting with RISP isn't clutch hitting. It is. maybe there are other ways to knock guys in, and by "clutch," but you can't say that a two out single with the bases loaded isn't clutch hitting.

Sure it's clutch hitting, it's just not the method by which the Reds often produce Runs, even when they are hitting well. They do it some, but not as often as some teams.

They don't do it as often as they should. This team gets into the habit of waiting for the 3 run jack because its easier than trying to produce runs. What happens when that 3 run jack doesn't come... they lose. That is what happened the last 3 games.

I think any Red that swings at the first pitch should be fined one game check. Even if he hits a grand slam...it's just not good hitting.

I didn't say that, but they have to know the situation. Obviously they should be looking first-pitch fastball with the bases loaded.

Lately they have just been swinging away early on no matter what the situation.

No, they really haven't. But talking to you is like talking to a brick wall, you think you know all when clearly you know very little.
