Griffey Has Knee Scoped

Ken Griffey Jr. had his left knee scoped Tuesday by Dr. Tim Kremchek.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Griffey played through pain all season and had his knee drained three times. He'll be a free agent once the White Sox decline his $16 million option for 2009.

Can this help a 39 year old man play better? We shall see. Griffey really wasn't all that bad in CF for the White Sox. Hopefully this will ease the pain in his knees so he can start generating power again.

Surgeries like this are pretty routine, although without proper rehab (like he can't afford to do it right), range-of-motion can be hindered. I would expect him to be 100% before spring training next year and come back with a solid season, although I don't know where the Sox will play him. He's better suited for RF right now, but then where do you put Dye? They have Thome at DH, so that isn't really an option. CF is likely the best place for the Sox, but can he handle a full season there again without breaking down?

Well, he can't play center, can't stay healthy, and can't hit.

I'm gonna say the Sox should let him go.

Not a huge loss to the Sox. Griffey helped put butts in the seats in whatever they call the ballpark now. Would those fans have come out to see Richar or Masset?
