Not bad for a utility guy who did a lot in Nomar's absence. Like the article said, he is not promised a starting job.

Neifi Perez got a two year deal? *jumps*

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.
he better not be a starter. grrrr. hopefully we can land furcal. his only use is as a defensive substitution, or as a utility player who gets 60-70 starts a year at various positions.

Dusty didn't sign him plus Perez has already called Furcal to try and make him a Cub. Some team will need a SS next year and there has been some talk that Neifi and Cedeno sharing time at second and Walker being traded.
Hopefully more of Cedeno at second.
Hopefully?
The fact that Neifi gets more than the league minimum is de facto proof of incompetence by the Cubs.
When you pay Neifi Perez or Tony Womack and actually expect them, or, even worse, want them to play, there is something seriously wrong with you conceptually.
Nefi did pretty good last year replacing Nomar, but I think we gave him a little too much.

Neifi played well in place of Nomar and deserves more than league minimum. And guess what? As of right now, the Cubs have no SS, so let's see how it plays out. $2.5 is not a lot of money by any means.
especially not when the cubs will have a payroll upwards of 100 million.Originally Posted by love_that_reefer

I'm sorry, but Nefi Perez does not belong in a starting lineup. If he wasn't Dusty's boy, I would have liked the signing. But... we did overpay, and he is Dusty's boy. Which means he'll likely start upwards 70 games at various positions, possibly more.
I know, I know, the new trend is defense wins championships... but come on, when you have a rally killer like Perez with a .300 OBP in the #1 or #2 hole like the Cubs did all of last year, I don't know how you can expect anything to happen.
I just hope Furcal signs on so we're not stuck with Nefi as an everyday player. Or even worse... Alex Gonzalez.
