    Murton TEARING the AFL up!

Murton making a big splash in AFL
Former first rounder has a .944 slugging percentage with Mesa

By Zack Hample / Special to MLB.com

Is it any surprise that outfielder Matt Murton is tearing up the Arizona Fall League?

After batting .342 at Double-A West Tenn, .353 for Triple-A Iowa and .321 in 51 games with the Chicago Cubs, the former first-round draft pick already has compiled softball-type numbers with the Mesa Solar Sox.

In the season's first week, Murton was 10-for-18 (.556) with six runs scored, three walks, a .619 on-base percentage and an astounding .944 slugging percentage after seven of his first eight hits were doubles.

Wow, that's great news. I really think he could be a starting OF next year. Guy has been phenomenal ever since joining the organization. Nomar trade looks better every day!

If Dusty lets him play, he'll hit.

    Hahaha, I made myself laugh.

he will, because he isnt a rookie anymore.

murton is pretty much guaranteed to start unless he absolutely sucks ass during ST. like corey patterson or mark bellhorn bad. He pretty much has the job by default as there arent any other qualified outfielders.

Unless Neifi learns to play the outfield.

Or if they found some Big FA/Trades. I don't see that happening though.

I'm sure there's some old outfielder on his last legs that Dusty could get a woody over.

I was watching espnews this morning and the Mike and Mike show was on. They had Peter Gammons on the phone talking about the teams and their offseason moves. Gammons said he wouldn't be suprised if Nomar is starting LF for the Cubs next season. I almost choked on my breakfast i laughed so hard. Nomar can't even throw a ball to first base without tossing it in the stands. I can't even imagine him playing the OF. Just another brilliant statement by Gammons.
