I know people are saying "how did you expect him to do with a shit roster?", but that's beyond the point.

If you actually watched the Cubs, you saw the problems with Dale. Castro, Rizzo, and Shark all regressed a bit this season while all of the scrappy veteren pick ups flourished. Not to mention how bad he is at handling a bullpen.

Personally I am on the Girardi bandwagon if he becomes available. 90% because of how he did with Miami, 10% because I loved him when he played for the Cubs.

Ya Theo and Jed made it clear all the time. They never held him accountable for wins/losses because the talent wasn't there. They even said trading away so many players wasn't helping Sveum either. Bottom line this came down to how young players were progressing. They even mentioned that's a concern because they have guys like Baez, Bryant, Almora, ect. that will be here the next year or two.

Sveum may be capable of being a good manager, but he wasn't a fit for a team developing young talent. That's the reality of this situation.

I think the Yankees would be foolish to deny the Cubs permission. What if Girardi just waits until the 31st and then leaves. Do the Yankees want to wait that long to find a replacement?

Joe Girardi, the favorite to land the managerial job if offered, could bring Kevin Long with him from the Yankees. Long, like Girardi, is believed to have completed the final year of his contract and is considered an exceptional teacher who can connect with young players and is adept at identifying and correcting flaws.


Long also lives in the Phoenix area in the offseason, which might be enticing because the Cubs conduct spring training in Mesa, Ariz.

One of the Cubs' primary goals is to improve their .300 on-base percentage, which ranked next-to-last in the National League.

"Hitting is an area where it's extremely important to have a great support system for your young hitters and unity among those responsible for coaching and teaching," Epstein said.

When asked directly if management would strongly endorse pitching coach Chris Bosio, whose staff posted a 4.00 ERA despite massive turnover, Epstein responded in general terms.


"We delivered strong and clear messages to the coaches about how we felt about them and what we report to the ultimate winning candidate about who is an asset, a weapon, and who should be retained if possible," Epstein said.

Two scouting sources said two weeks ago that Derek Johnson, the Cubs' minor league pitching coordinator, could receive an endorsement because of his work this season with prospects.

I actually would be worried if we went with Derek Johnson. If it doesn't work out I don't want to lose him as our minor league pitching coordinator. At least while he was the MLB pitching coach he'd still have tons of say.
