Hawks win Second Straight Over Eugene

June 27, 2005 - BOISE, ID - The Boise Hawks won their second straight game over the Eugene Emeralds by a score of 5-0 in front of 2,950 fans at Hawks Memorial Stadium. They’re now 4-3 on the young season and in 1st place in the NWL’s Eastern Division.

Mark Reed led the offense, going 2-4 with 2 RBI. Andy Santana (1-0) recorded the win for the Hawks. Scott Koerber recorded the save, his first on the year.

Ben Krosschell (0-2) took the loss for the Emeralds. Eugene drops to 3-4 on the season.

The Boise Hawks displayed their great defensive skills in the top of the fourth inning. 3rd baseman Brandon Taylor fielded a ground ball and tagged third base for the force before throwing to 1st baseman Elvin Puello to complete the double play.

Mark Reed, younger brother of Seattle Mariner center fielder, Jeremy Reed, broke the scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning with his first home run of the season.

The bottom of the fifth was a big inning at bat for the Hawks. Jake Muyco led off with a single before Second baseman Scott Hode drove him home with an RBI line drive double to left center.
Shortstop Jonathan Mota followed with an RBI double of his own to drive home Hode. Mark Reed then continued the hitting trend with his third double of the season to left center. Jesus Valdes finished the scoring, driving home Reed with an RBI single.

Notes: RHP Michael Jones has been promoted to the Peoria Chiefs (Low A). Former Hawk Jonathon Hunton will rejoin the Hawks from Peoria on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s start time will be 7:15 MDT at Hawks Memorial Stadium.

Hawks Drop 2nd Straight

June 29, 2005 - BOISE, ID - The Boise Hawks (4-5) dropped their second straight game to Eugene (5-4) Wednesday night. 7-3 was the final. 2,257 fans were in attendance. Eugene’s bullpen was stellar, not allowing a single Hawk to reach first base from the bottom of the 5th inning on. 14 consecutive Boise batters failed to reach the basepaths.

The Hawks jumped on Eugene right out of the gate scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Davy Gregg doubled down the left field line to start the game. Two batters later, Chris Gaskin plated Gregg to record his 10th RBI of the season.

Eugene countered with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead. Drew Davidson homered to the right-center power alley, his first home run of the year. Josh Alley scored on the play, giving Davidson his 3rd and 4rth RBI’s on the season.

The Hawks evened the score in the bottom of the 4th. Elvin Puello led the inning off with his 3rd double of the season and then scored on a fielder’s choice by Jesus Valdez. Valdez did record an RBI on the play, his 5th of the season.

Eugene exploded in the top of the 5th with 5 runs, highlighted by a grand slam home run by Billy Richardson his first HR of the season. The 4 RBI on the play give him 5 for the year. The Emeralds surged to a 7-2 lead.

The Hawks recorded a lone tally in the bottom of the 5th shrinking the lead to 7-3. Jeff Culpepper recorded his 3rd RBI of the season in the inning.

William Ponce (1-0) recorded his first win of the season. Mitch Atkins (0-1) took the loss for Boise.

The 5 game set will conclude Thursday night in Boise with a 7:15 MDT first pitch.

Notes: Boise’s Davey Gregg stole his league-leading 10th and 11th stolen bases on the season.
