Derrek Lee is nearly first among first basemen.
Lee leads the National League in nearly every offensive category, and needs just a little push to be in first at his position, according to the latest All-Star Game balloting update, released Tuesday.
Lee has received 1,654,267 votes to the Cardinals' Albert Pujols' 1,714,179, a gap of less than 60,000 tallies. Regardless of the outcome of the vote, Lee should be headed to his first All-Star Game, which will be played July 12 in Detroit.
Balloting has ended at Wrigley Field, so fans need to cast their votes online now through 11:59 p.m. ET on June 30.
Lee's stellar season with the Cubs has prompted talk of a potential Triple Crown, which would be the first in the National League since Joe Medwick did so in 1937.
He's already picked up a few honors this year, winning the National League Player of the Month award in April after hitting .419. He's been named Player of the Week twice.
I really don't care who gets the nod because both will be there. Lee definetly deserves it over Albert, but it's a fan favorite thing so if Albert is more popular then so be it.
