Cubs trade for ryan freel in exchange for Gathright and cash considerations. Not a bad move, since gathright was pretty much a waste of a roster spot. and freel should be able to help the cubs now that ramirez is out 4-6 weeks.

What is up with the Orioles taking all of the Cubs trash? I like the move for the Cubs though. A lot of teams could have used Freel and the Cubs grabbed him.
Eh, I would be weary of Freel. He hustles and plays all out, but often it is not within anyone's best interest. He is a time bomb waiting to go off for an injury to himself or someone else he collides with. Also makes terrible decisions on the base paths.
GET NOTICED.

Freel was not happy with a reserve role. If he can accept that role with the Cubs, he has use.
The problem has always been when a team overextends his role from super-sub to starter, spot start him and use him as an occasional energy burst to the lineup, but that's it.
