CHICAGO -- Brandon Backe outpitched Greg Maddux, and Morgan Ensberg hit a go-ahead homer Wednesday night as the Houston Astros broke a seven-game losing streak by beating the Chicago Cubs 5-1.
In a rapidly paced game that took just 2 hours, 21 minutes, the Astros improved to 3-21 away from Minute Maid Park.
Ensberg's ninth homer and sixth in his last 16 games broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth, and the Astros sealed the long-awaited victory by scoring three runs in the eighth inning.
Sucky loss tonight. Maddux was solid but we just couldn't get the job done in the 8th. Offense was off tonight too . Backey was good for Houston though so that explains alot of it.
