BOSTON -- The Red Sox placed pitcher David Wells and first baseman Hee-Seop Choi on the 15-day disabled list Saturday.
Wells, who was 15-7 last year and had offseason surgery on his right knee, was placed on the DL retroactive to March 28. He is expected to make his first start April 12 at home against the Blue Jays.
Choi, claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on March 24, has a strained left hamstring and was placed on the DL retroactive to March 29. He has a career batting average of .240 with 40 homers and 120 RBI in 363 games.
Well, that simplifies one front (What will happen with Choi) and complicates another (the rotation). I guess they'll go four-man unless Wells can't make it back in a timely manner, then Papelbon will take over until he comes back.
