Papelbon's in the Pen, Juan Gone is Juan Gone.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona confirmed Thursday that Jonathan Papelbon will open the season as a reliever.
Papelbon is expected to resume working out of the pen immediately, though it will be a few days before he gets into another game after he threw five innings on Wednesday. Papelbon could be the primary alternative to Keith Foulke in the closer's role should the Red Sox need to make a change
The right move. I like Papelbon, and even as soon as next year, he could be a solid starter for the Red Sox. However, he's too inconsistant and it would help if he improved his pitches outside of his fastball before going for 6 or 7 innings a game. I guess it's
Schilling, Beckett, Wells, Wake, Clement for the rotation. Not bad.
and from the Herald
According to the Boston Herald, Juan Gonzalez has backed out of his contract with the Red Sox to sign a minor league deal with the A's.
Yeah, I doubt he's getting a job with either team.
Seems like the Sox are setting in to place, they have five OFs set in (Ramirez, Nixon, Crisp, Pena, Stern), their rotation (Schilling, Beckett, Wells, Wake, Clement). Likely only a couple spots remaining.

He has not signed with the A's. The Boston media needs to be drawn and quartered.

No one disagrees with you there. Juan seems to believe he's going and the A's do not. Here's an article.

I agree, he's not getting a job with either team at this point.

The A's assistant GM has denied the A's even have any interest in him and his own agent said there was no truth to the rumor that he signed with the A's.

As said by the Herald.
"TAMPA - This morning I heard from someone with the Oakland A’s and the AL West team is perplexed by Juan Gonzalez’ comments out of Puerto Rico that he was heading to that team rather than the Red Sox. The A’s source said that the two-time AL MVP has not reached an agreement with them and, furthermore, that Oakland has no interest in him. That will surprise the Sox, who saw Gonzalez’ comments (or alleged comments) and believed that he was going to the A’s. Even though Boston reached an agreement in principle with the slugger over the weekend, it wasn’t going to make a stink if he had second thoughts after the acquisition of Wily Mo Pena on Monday. Gonzalez was due to show up in camp on Tuesday but there has been no sign from him … not even a phone call. "
