Jim Bowden wants David Wells...
but he doesn't want to pay the lardass. Woohoo for him.
A source told MLB.com that the Nationals are looking to acquire David Wells from the Red Sox, but they want Boston to pay most or all of his potential $9 million salary.
Sounds good. Maybe Jim Bowden can also get them to throw in Jon Lester, just for the fun of it. The Nationals don't have a lot to offer the Red Sox. Maybe Boston would part with Wells for a couple of decent pitching prospects, but it'd take more than that to get them to pay part of his salary in the process. Also, while Wells doesn't have no-trade protection, he probably wouldn't be pleased to be dealt to Washington when what he really wants is to finish his career on the West Coast.
At this point, I can't see this trade happening unless a suitor comes along who can pay big money or has some decent prospects for the Sox to absorb the money. The Sox haven't been able to deal him all winter, it isn't happening now.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose? Unless there is something I'm not aware of, Wells asked to be traded closer to home on the west coast. While closer, it's not signicantly closer.

Haven't other GMs already stripped the National farm anyway?

Ryan Zimmerman looks pretty good...hehe, pipe dream, and McKain would kill Jim Bowden if he was that stupid anyway.
At least Curt Schilling is looking good, so Wells is more expendable than he was. They could get Annyong/Byung-Hyun back.
