Crawford has minor wrist surgery

Carl Crawford underwent surgery Tuesday to have cartilage removed from his left wrist.
It was not a major procedure, and the Red Sox haven't ruled him out for the start of the regular season. Crawford posted a disappointing .255/.289/.405 batting line with 11 home runs, 18 stolen bases and 56 RBI across 130 games in 2011. He'll be looking to bounce back in a big way in his second year with Boston.

Crawford needs to do whatever he can to do better but why wait til now to have this surgery? I just don't understand athletes who wait like this?

Reportly he wasn't having severe pain in the wrist until he started intense workouts at the beginning of Jan. It was sore at the end of the season and seemed better doing normal off season rehab. No way to know right now if it will affect his starting the season.

Crawford was slated to return after the allstar break but pulled his groin (pulled it right off!) in a rehab start, he will be shut down for 5 days and reevaluated (per MLBTV bottom ticker)

Geez, can’t help but be a smidge grateful that the Rays aren’t going through this nightmare with him, going through enough of our own. I just hate the thought that he may never really be able to “justify” his contract and be hated by the Sox Nation in the long run.

He's not hated yet... had one bad year... lots of time to prove his worth
