Red Sox Red Sox need a manager

Reports are saying Bobby Valentine is now back in the picture but he's not alone. Sandy Alomar Jr., Torey Luvullo and Gene Lamont are still in the hunt. The Red Sox were thought to want someone with no managerial experience at first but appear to have changed their minds. Valentine at least knows how to handle a big market and could possibly attract Japanese players.

Cherington wanted Sveum. They even flew him out to Milwaukee and got him his hotel room on the Sox dime. After the 2nd interview Larry said no and it appears he was working this Valentine angle the whole time (according to an ESPN Boston article).

The one thing Theo was right about was that the manager/GM relationship is important. One of the main reasons he wanted to leave a year early was so Ben could pick the next guy. Seems weird to totally shoot down your new GM's pick, and then stick him with someone he may or may not have a good working relationship with.

They should emulate the White Sox and hire a former player with no previous coaching experience.

    SBSL Isotopes 2007-2009

I wouldn't go that far! I have always found Alomar Jr. to be a good candidate

Apparently I'm alone in my thoughts about Alomar Jr.. He was told by Cherington that he is no longer a candidate.

Remember when Toronto was nervous that J.P. Ricciardi would leave the Jays after just one year into his job to become GM of the Red Sox?

Re: Red Sox need a manager

According to Karl Ravech of ESPN, Tigers third base coach Gene Lamont is no longer a candidate for the Red Sox manager job.
The Red Sox may have finally settled on Terry Francona's replacement. While Bobby Valentine hasn't been offered the job yet, Ravech writes that it "appears imminent." The 61-year-old Valentine has a 1117-1072 record (.510) over 15 years of managerial experience in the big leagues between the Rangers and Mets, but has been out of MLB since 2002.
Looks like Bobby V will be the next manager unless they pull a Robin Ventura out of their hat.

They should pull Bill Mueller out of their hat.

Interesting hire. ESPN employees score another. Will Bobby V wear a disguise to the press conference?

They will thaw out Ted Williams head and he will wear his face as a mask. Too soon?

Bobby V is getting a very short leash, only a two year deal.
