Epstein has final say in everything. That's true because he's president. In Boston that guy was Larry. Theo left Boston because he wanted to have final say so in all baseball decisions. Various reports have said all of the baseball decisions with free agents weren't always him. So why in the world would he leave Boston if he had absolute control? He left in 2005 to get more. In Chicago he won't have to answer to anyone for his baseball decisions. That's why he's PRESIDENT.

If Theo had come as GM the Red Sox would NOT get Castro. You are crazy if you believe that. The Cubs would hang up the phone. The Cubs could have easily given Theo the title of General Manager & President. Give him a promotion while still making him the GM. But that's not what happened here. They are getting Hoyer who they had to give up compensation for. Why not just get anybody who'd cost nothing?

Admit it, "President of Baseball Operations" is an office that the Cubs created specifically to get around compensation rules for poaching Theo (or so they thought). The Cubs' Team President is still Kenney.

I see from your post in the other thread that you have an axe to grind with the Cubs. There are no compensation rules. Regardless of his position that has NOTHING to do with poaching. If you let a guy out of his contract it usually comes with that condition if who he can take with him. President or GM the Cubs are blocked from hiring Red Sox personnel per the agreement. Kenney may or may not have a job anymore. One of the guys the Cubs want to come with Theo is a business executive. I doubt they want him answering to Kenney. You really think Theo was coming here if Kenney was really Cubs president?

So Theo will just be the baseball czar for the Cubs. How is that much different from his role as the top dog on the baseball side for Boston?

Because it was Larry? Theo has no one to answer to. Sometimes ownership wanted player (x). That situation won't happen in Chicago.

I may be jealous of what the Cubs are doing, but I could care less if they are giving up anything for Theo, as I'm not a Red Sox fan. But even if it's my team that is getting Theo, I'd have no problem admitting that the purpose of giving him the title of "President of Baseball Operations" is just to circumvent compensation. And if the Red Sox had no compensation rules to stand on, why didn't the Cubs get Theo much sooner than they did?

I can't tell if you all are leveling me are are just this thick... they gave them the titles according to where they were at now but they just wanna rebuild the old Red Sox office with Theo at the top and Hoyer below him

In letting Hoyer (and McLeod) leave, not only did Moorad hand the Cubs another GM without any haggling but he helped Boston cover Theo's front office personnel needs thus reducing the compensation the Cubs would owe.

Moorad has nothing to do with it. The point is the Cubs appointed someone else GM. Why would they do this if Theo is only "president" in name only?

Nobody's leveling anybody. Theo is the President of Baseball Operations and Hoyer is the GM. It's pretty clear cut.
