Not sure why all the arguing on this everything points to the hold up being just a physical/medical report on the players involved and possibly the timing issue of whether or not to officially announce it during the WS.

The Sox have already thrown Theo under the bus, so I don’t see him going back. It doesn’t make sense for the Padres and Cubs to jump through hoops with all these moves considered at Theo’s request if this deal were not imminent.

The two WS championships is all that needs to be said. The over-hyped and mythical "curse" didn't make it any harder than it would have been with any other team with comparable payroll and comparable competition.

Chicago media is saying their information on the deal being imminent on Thursday was correct, but Red Sox brass were upset that the information was leaked "prematurely", causing the talks to go back to a deadlock. Boston media is still saying nothing is close, even though Gordon Edes was the first to break the story that the deal was basically done pending medical reports. Now I'm hearing that this might not get done before Halloween. /Facepalm

This is all getting very old.

I almost hope the deal doesn't go through and Theo signs an extension with Boston. That way I can see if CJ backtracks on the "overrated" comment.

Free Agency is only a portion of what GM's do. Most FA deals aren't fantastic, couple that with trying to match the Yankees move for move, you're going to wind up some bad deals.

Perhaps he simply has enough faith in Byrnes to not cave in to Hoyer to convince him to stay

Have to question how reluctant Moorad was to let Hoyer go if Moorad grants a similar contract extension to Byrnes instead.

Well, if they're extending Byrnes then I'll have to agree with you that Moorad obviously didn't think too highly of Hoyer.

All well, I was on the fence with him anyway and, as shocking as this revelation may be, I do agree with you that the main problem is the owner's tight finances.

To be exact, it's not that Moorad didn't think too highly of Hoyer, but rather Moorad thinks too highly of Byrnes.
