An insiders report on Brian Matusz
You can take this for what its worth. I still say nobody really knows, but here goes.
I just spent a long time talking to a major league scout who told me he thinks Brian Matusz is the best player selected in the first round. Repeat. The BEST player.
"Ive watched this guy for more than two years, he has four pitches and he can get any of them in for strikes..he throws a hard fastball, and Ive clocked him at 97 before."
I asked him if the Orioles sign him, could he begin at Double A?
"Double A?, Roy, this guy has 4 major league pitches right now, and a killer changeup".
I believe he could pitch for the Orioles right now!"
"All those position players are two or three years away", he said." Matusz could pitch in the big leagues tommorrow".
He later told me he liked Matusz just as much as he liked David Price because his mechanics and delivery was smoother and more refined.
Anyway, I offer no opinions..but I thought that insight was interesting.
