Minor Leagues Is Liz ready to be called up?

Roy Firestone reports that Trembley and Kranitz wanted Liz called up only to have McPhail say no and call up Cormier instead.

    What are your thoughts?

Some say give him a shot, what do the rebuilding/no offense O's have to lose? Others say that Liz has only put together a few good outings at Norfolk and since the O's are not going to contend this year anyway.... Liz needs to put together an entire season of solid pitching at the AAA level.

I agree, if they are truely in the rebuilding period they need to bring this guy up and give him a shot instead of some 30 something journeyman who hasn't really shown much in his career.

I kind of agree with McPhail on this one. Extra time at AAA should only help build his confidence. Sometimes you can rush a prospect. Good arguments on both sides, but if Andy McPhail says give him more time in AAA, I am not one to disagree.

You can rush a prospect. See Bill Pulsipher, Paul Wilson, and even to some extent Jason Isringhausen. It's tough. I would probably have given him a shot, and if he had any struggles, send him back down. But then again, I'm not a GM in the MLB, am I?

That is true, McPhail is suppose to have a good track record as a GM, so who am I to counter guess him. I have never been a GM, although I would love to be the 1st female GM.

I mean, it is the Orioles though. There have been times where I wonder if they're not just PLAYING GM, like I played doctor as a child. But I'm sure they have SOME clue.

True you can rush a prospect, but the one thing you don't want to do is coddle a great player.

Look at guys like Haren, Verlander, CC Sabathia...all three were brought up when they showed promise and all three are aces...

Coddling prospects is never a good idea. You can always fix a mistake if they fail the first time around, but if you leave them down too longer, they end up like Jeff Mathis or Brandon Wood

And the only true way to see if this guy is ready is to give him a legit chance in the majors.

Sounds like another Jorge Julio. A dude who can fire a baseball at the strikezone at 99 mph, if he can find it.

Re: Is Liz ready to be called up?

Clearly Liz is not ready yet.

    He's 1-5 at AAA with 56 hits and 57 Ks in 59 IP...Radhames Liz Statistics (Minor Leagues) - Baseball-Reference.com

OK, here's a question: Would you demote Liz until he finds his control, or leave him in AAA to help speed along his process, instead of making sure he's fine tuned?
