Great news for Orioles fans, and a great week so far.
We demolished the Yankees in a 12-0 shutout yesterday and had a thrilling victory in today's game, winning 6-3 in extra innings.
Earlier today, the Orioles announced the signing of fifth-round draft choice, pitcher Jacob Arrieta, who signed in the $1 million range, who is another client of Scott Boras.
Now, in an 11th hour deal, the Orioles have agreed to terms with catcher Matt Wieters, ending the talks of him going back to Georgia Tech for his senior season and leaving the Orioles high and dry.
True to their word, the Orioles stuck with their offer of $6 million for Wieters. This was a far cry from the $10.6 million Boras was aiming for his client, which was the same amount that another client, Mark Teixiera, received from the Texas Rangers.
I'll have more coming in tomorrow, but in the words of our scouting director, Joe Jordan.......
"You can tell the City of Baltimore that the old evil owner stepped up and took care of things tonight. We had to fight to the end."
