Orioles signed RHP Russ Ortiz to a one-year contract.
This should be fun. Ortiz had a 7.54 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP in 22 2/3 innings for the Diamondbacks. His fastball velocity is well below average, so he can no longer afford to challenge quality hitters, and it's not like he ever had exceptional control in the first place. With the Orioles throwing him right into their rotation, there's a good chance he'll be the worst pitcher in the AL over the rest of the season. Since Baltimore will only have to pay him about $180,000, it's not much of a risk. He's unlikely to help, though.
