    I'm pretty sure there's a minimum post count that, once met, allows you to custom edit your avatar.

    I'm honestly not sure what that post count is but I don't think it's very high.

    I could be wrong or it could have been changed in the past couple of years but it seems to me I was able to use one of the "pre-defined" B/S avatars right away. I wasn't able to upload custom avatars until
    after paying for the yearly membership.
