Braves named Roger McDowell pitching coach.
McDowell was in the running for the same position with the Mariners before the job went to Rafael Chaves. The 12-year major leaguer was the pitching coach of the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate at Las Vegas the past two seasons. "He is one of the true up-and-coming teachers of the game," manager Bobby Cox said. "He has a great knowledge of pitching, and the reviews and evaluations we had on him were tremendous.
