This is a moot point.
With Jake pushing Towers out of being able to include Escobar in the deal I'd put money on Jake being in Chicago, LA, or still in San Diego next year over him being in Atlanta.

How did we get to be in a position where we can trade our farm system for an elite pitcher like Peavy just a year after trading our farm system for Tex? Damn.. I mean, we traded EVERYBODY we had to get Tex.

It sucks. They gave up a lot for Tex and he ended up leaving. Wren also hired a special assistant. I guess Wren can't handle the job.

We didn't empty the farm on Teixeira.. we gave up a lot, yes, but not everything.
Leo, are you turning desperate to get Peavy out of town as much as Towers is?
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

No, I want Jake to stay.
I just want to get a worthwhile deal for him if he is traded.

Yes he is supposedly going to be as good as Peavy. How is it funny? Why would anyone trade someone who could be as good if not better than Peavy especially when they could control that pitcher for years to come and for a lot cheaper? Talent might be equal but that's all.

Precisely why I don't trust prospects. When was the last time that a team fared better with the players that it received for a multiple-time all-star player in his prime (and I don't mean a token all-star like A.J. Pierzynski)? When two franchises couldn't get equal value for Wayne freaking Gretzky, that is all there is needed to be said.
Obviously they are trying to dump Peavy's contract and no matter what, they aren't going to get equal talent in return. They can fill two or three holes by trading Peavy which is ultimately best for the team or they can keep him. Hanson is off limits as he should be.
They're not trying to dump Jake's contract. They're trying to see if they can get a very good trade in that's more valuable to the Padres than Jake is alone.
If the team was only concerned with dumping salary they wouldn't give 9 million to 37 year old Brian Giles and trade away the most popular player on the team earning the same amount.

Giles=one year, not five. The Padres fell to last place and Peavy's contract is the main reason they are trying to deal him. He is the most expensive along with being the best player. Why else would they be trying to trade their best player?? To better themselves by filling multiple holes while dumping his contract. Same reason they are trying to dump Greene and its salary. Padres are trying to get their payroll from $70 million to $50 million. That is called dumping salary. Padres are going into a rebuilding mode. Bottom line is its about money, plain and simple.
