Tom GlavineSPDLApr 18HamstringLate AprBraves placed LHP Tom Glavine on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 14, with a strained hamstring. Glavine was surprised by the news and still believed on Friday afternoon that he was going to be cleared to start Saturday. Instead, Chuck James will take his place versus the Dodgers. Glavine should be ready to go on April 29.
Peter MoylanRPDLApr 15ElbowIndefinitelyThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Peter Moylan might require reconstructive elbow surgery. If so, he'll miss the rest of the season, but the Braves are going to wait two weeks to determine if it's necessary. Moylan has a bone spur pressing against the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, which has "compromised" the ligament. The Braves hope that with rehab he'll be able to avoid the knife, but it seems unlikely.
Rafael SorianoRPDLApr 9ElbowLate AprRafael Soriano (elbow) said Wednesday that he hopes to return from the disabled list when eligible Tuesday. Soriano threw from flat ground Tuesday and is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday. With Peter Moylan now out, Soriano is a near-lock to resume closing immediately upon his return.
Mike HamptonSPDLApr 4ChestEarly MayMike Hampton threw all his pitches in a 50-pitch bullpen session Saturday. Hampton said he threw at about 85-percent effort. "Still a little timid, but more intense than last time," he said. "If I can do that next time, make that [progress], I'll be ready for something competitive." He's about two weeks away.
Mike GonzalezRPDLMar 29ElbowJuneMike Gonzalez has pitched effectively in simulated games at extended spring training and is ahead of schedule in his recovery from Tommy John Surgery. Originally, after Gonzalez underwent the surgery, he wasn't expected back until the All-Star break. He showed progress at spring training which pushed his return to early June. Now the Braves are talking about him being ready by late May. He has another month of simulated games, then could start a rehab assignment.
Omar Infante2BDLMar 29HandLate AprilBraves placed infielder Omar Infante on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with a broken left hand. Infante is likely to miss most of April, leaving Martin Prado and Ruben Gotay as the Braves' utilitymen.
Anthony LerewSPDLJul 19ElbowAug/SeptBraves placed RHP Anthony Lerew on the 60-day disabled list following Tommy John surgery. Lerew will miss at least the first half of the year following surgery last July. It's doubtful that he'll see time with the Braves prior to September.
