Todd Hollandsworth went 0-for-4 as the Braves' left fielder and No. 5 hitter tonight.
It might be like Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan all over again. Hollandsworth hasn't done a thing all year to justify batting fifth for Atlanta.

John Smoltz left with a four-run lead after allowing three runs in five innings against the Nationals tonight, but the Atlanta bullpen cost him a victory for the fifth time this season.
Jim Brower, Macay McBride and Dan Kolb combined to allow four runs in the seventh. Thanks to three strong innings from Kyle Davies, the Braves managed to win anyway. Smoltz had an off night, but he deserved better. He has just one win since the beginning of last month.

Andruw Jones led off the bottom of the 10th with his 44th home run to give the Braves an 8-7 win over the Nationals tonight.
There's another MVP vote. Jones also had an RBI on a groundout, so he finished the night at 110

Certainly helps AJ's cred for MVP, but to hell with that. The game should have been done after the third inning.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

Tim Hudson won tonight despite allowing four runs and 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings against the Reds.
Fortunately, he was matched up against Eric Milton. Hudson did strike out seven and walk none. The runs scored on a three-run homer from Austin Kearns and a solo homer from Ken Griffey Jr.

Chipper Jones homered, doubled and walked tonight against the Reds.
Is a big September on the way? Chipper also homered yesterday. He has 15 home runs and 25 doubles in 83 games.

Kyle Farnsworth recorded his second save in three days by getting four outs against the Reds tonight.
Manager Bobby Cox again showed very little faith in Chris Reitsma, pulling him after he gave up his second hit of the eighth inning. Farnsworth entered and got Felipe Lopez to ground out. He then retired three of the four batters he faced in the ninth, with Ryan Langerhans making a diving catch of a Sean Casey drive to end the game. It looks like Farnsworth is something more than just the head of a committee right now.
Good! About the damn time we got a dominant closer like Farnsworth.

Brian Jordan was scratched from the lineup against lefty Eric Milton because of a sore knee.
Jordan was activated from the disabled list Thursday, but his knee is apparently not ready
Already? Sheesh. Put him back on the DL.

Jeff Francoeur left tonight's game in the sixth inning with a bruised left ankle.
Francoeur stayed in initially after getting hit by a Brian Shackelford pitch. He's probably day-to-day.
Hope he's alright.

Lerew recalled!
Braves recalled RHP Anthony Lerew from Triple-A Richmond.
Lerew does make more sense in the pen then Richmond's other top pitching prospect, Chuck James. The 22-year-old went 4-4 with a 3.48 ERA, 63 H and 53/23 K/BB in 72 1/3 IP for Triple-A Richmond. He can be used in long relief and in a mop-up role

Frenchy will be alright:
The Braves didn't feel the need to send Jeff Francoeur for X-rays on his injured ankle. The right fielder is day-to-day with a bruise.
Either Todd Hollandsworth or Ryan Langerhans might be needed to fill in for Francoeur tomorrow

Jorge Sosa earned his 10th win by allowing three runs -- two earned -- in five innings tonight against the Reds.
Sosa struggled in the fourth after he seemed to hurt himself on a slide into third base in the third inning, but he made it through the inning giving up only a couple of runs and he remained in to pitch a scoreless fifth inning. He's expected to make a couple of more starts before Mike Hampton tries to return.
