The Arizona Diamondbacks are making a strong play for Marlins catcher Paul Lo Duca, says the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Lo Duca is due $12.5 million through 2007 and could be the next high-priced veteran shed by Florida.

Probably one of the only teams who'll be interested. 33 year old catchers aren't exactly high on the demand list, not to mention he hasn't even come close to reproducing the stats of his best year, and he was never more than above average at defense.
I'm sure Florida will be happy to get even a decent prospect in return.
It would be nice to have him as a catcher, though I woulnd not want want to give prospects up. Maybe we could trade Vasquez.
Take Estrada.

Trading Vazquez for Lo Duca would never happen. The Marlins want to dump salary, not take on mediocre pitchers with big ones.
Maybe on a pure value standpoint it would work, but for a team who want to cut off tens of millions of salary quick, taking Vazquez in return won't do that. Prospects or young MLBers are the only real choice of what to deal to the Marlins.
I think it would be smart for the DBacks to stay away from this one. LoDuca was a good hitter when he played with the Dodgers, but just isn't "earning" his money so to speak with these Marlins. I think the Marlins will be stuck with him.
I like you statement, and I turst it.
