It was definitely an ugly season for Heilman who is usually just mediocre. I'm sure another team will give him a chance but this was a smart move for the DBacks who are trying to contend in the West and needed the roster spot for someone who can actually help, not hurt.The Diamondbacks are releasing Aaron Heilman.
Heilman inked a one-year, $2 million free agent contract with Arizona this winter and was in the running for a rotation spot late in spring training. He eventually settled for a setup role, before being demoted to mid-relief and then mop-up. The 32-year-old right-hander wound up posting a 6.88 ERA in 35 1/3 innings of work.
