Brandon Webb (ARI) 2.41 2008 Jon Garland (CHW) 2.41 2005 Pedro Martinez (MTL) 1.17 1997 Dave Stewart (OAK) 2.42 1988 Fernando Valenzuela (LAD) 0.50 1981 Roger Moret (BOS) 2.26 1973
The last 6 pitchers to start their years 8-0. As you can see, Brandon Webb's ERA is one of the highest of these pitchers. However, if you look up the information, they finished with the following numbers:
Jon Garland- 18-10, 3.50 ERA(128 ERA+), 1.17 WHIP
Pedro Martinez- 17-8, 1.90 ERA(219 ERA+), .93 WHIP
Dave Stewart- 21-12, 3.23 ERA(118 ERA+), 1.27 WHIP
Fernando Valenzuela- 13-7, 2.48 ERA(135 ERA+), 1.05 WHIP
Roger Moret- 13-2, 3.17 ERA(128 ERA+), 1.31 WHIP
As you can see, all experienced a significant drop off, however, all had incredible years. Every single one had an ERA well below league average, and every one had their fair share of wins.
Good start to the year for Brandon Webb, who has always been a great pitcher

Re: Webb
Also, according to ESPN, only one of the last 8 starters who won all 8 of their first 8 starts went on to win 20. That guy was Dave Stewart(see above). Interesting that only one has ever reached that plateau after such a hot start.

Re: Webb
Arizona is the best team in baseball right now, and I don't see them cooling down any time too soon (especially with their NL West competition). I don't think that it's a matter of "if" Webb gets 20 wins, I think it's just "when".

Re: Webb
Brandon Webb has some nasty stuff. The question is when will he reach 20 wins this year.
